Grade 60 deformed steel rebar tied in a 24-inch on-center grid. Unlike wire mesh, rebar provides true structural reinforcement — it keeps the slab monolithic, distributes point loads, and holds any hairline cracks tightly closed.
A compacted layer of crushed limestone (typically 4–6 inches) installed at 95% Proctor density. This creates a stable, free-draining foundation that isolates the concrete from the expansive clay below and prevents differential settlement.
Where soil conditions warrant, we install a woven geotextile fabric between the subgrade and base material. This prevents the limestone base from migrating into soft clay and maintains separation under hydraulic pressure.
Asphalt-impregnated fiber or foam expansion joints placed at driveways aprons, where the slab meets the garage foundation, and at calculated intervals. These joints absorb expansion from Texas heat and prevent random cracking.
